South India Wildlife Safaris

Dawn drives, forest lakes and expert naturalists across the Nilgiri landscape — South India's quietly spectacular safari country.

South India’s forests are a different safari: greener, quieter, less trodden than the famous northern parks. Across the Nilgiri landscape — Bandipur and Kabini in Karnataka, Periyar at Thekkady in Kerala — elephants, langurs, deer and rich birdlife share the forest with leopards and tigers.

We arrange jeep drives and lake cruises with trained naturalists, stay in lodges that take conservation seriously, and always set honest expectations: sightings are nature’s gift, never a promise.

How we run our safaris

  • Dawn and dusk jeep drives with expert naturalists
  • Periyar lake cruises through forested hills
  • Lodges chosen for comfort and conservation ethics
  • Honest expectation-setting — no guaranteed-sighting promises

South India Wildlife Safaris – Good to know

Are tiger sightings guaranteed?

No — and you should be wary of anyone who says otherwise. Bandipur and Kabini are renowned big-cat country, but sightings depend on season, time of day and luck. Elephants, deer and birdlife are seen far more reliably.

Kabini or Bandipur — which is better?

They are neighbours with different characters: Bandipur is classic dry teak forest, Kabini is riverside forest with boat as well as jeep safaris. With three or more nights, many guests combine both.

Is a safari suitable for children?

Generally yes for older children who can sit quietly through a drive; lodges set their own minimum ages, which we confirm before recommending.
