The Periyar reserve is home to wild elephants and rich birdlife, and sightings from the lake and trails do happen — but wildlife is never guaranteed. Our guides know the most rewarding times of day.
How many nights should we stay?
Two nights is the sweet spot: a plantation walk on arrival, the lake the next morning, and an unhurried evening in between.
How does Thekkady fit a longer journey?
It links naturally between Munnar and the backwaters — hills, then forest, then water. The classic route runs Kochi to Munnar to Thekkady to Alleppey or Kumarakom.
